Santa Cruz declares Jack O’Neill Day

Grab your wetsuit and paddle boards-the city of Santa Cruz just declared July 9, “Jack O’Neill Day”

The holiday remembers Jack O’Neill-local surf legend and creator of the O’Neill wetsuit.

O’Neill died earlier this month at the age of 94.

In addition to the O’Neill brand, O’Neill was known for working with students through the O’Neill Sea Odyssey, a non-profit that taught more than 100,000 children about marine biology.

Santa Cruz will lower its flags from July 7 to July 9 in honor of the deceased.

A paddle to pleasure point in O’Neill’s memory has also been organized and will take place on July 9.
