Greenfield bans breeding of pets

If you’ve visited Greenfield then you’ve probably driven by stray animals along the road.

The south Monterey County city announced it is trying to curb the population of stray cats and dogs.

A new ordinance prohibits people from breeding any dog, cat, or other animal within the city limits.

A person is allowed to breed if they have a licensed animal breeding business that follows the regulations of Greenfield, county of Monterey, state of California and any federal statutes.

City officials said breeding will be deemed to have occurred when an animal has a litter, whether such litter occurs from sexual activity, artificial insemination, or whether an animal becomes pregnant because of improper confinement.
