Fire at Culligan building in Salinas

A fire broke out at the Culligan Water Conditioning building in Salinas Thursday night, according the Salinas Fire Department.

The fire was reported after 8:30 p.m. on the 600 block of West Market Street. Investigators believe a car inside the building caught on fire first and then spread to the building.

Firefighters are evaluating chemicals inside the building to determine if they pose some sort of threat.

Streets nearby have been closed off as crews investigate.

The extent of damage to the building is unknown.
