Pedestrian struck on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz

A 28-year-old Santa Cruz man suffered significant injuries Wednesday when he was hit by a car at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street.

According to investigators, the man darted into traffic lanes crossing Highway 1 and was struck by a black Chevy Camaro. Police say the driver, a 57-year-old Salinas woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. She was not cited or arrested.

The victim was transported to a Bay Area trauma center. The identities of the victim and driver were not immediately released. The incident remains under investigation.
