Marina Police investigate crash knocking down power lines

UPDATE 9/27/16 3:50 PM: Marina Police said Reindollar Ave. is back open but Talcott Ave. will stay closed while PG&E repairs damaged power lines.

Police said the driver was actually wanted as a possibly burglary suspect.

An officer started following the suspect when he tried to get away, took a corner too fast and crashed into a power pole.

Power lines came down on the suspect’s car and the officer’s car but neither were hurt.

PREVIOUS STORY: A car crashed into a power pole at Reindollar Ave. and Talcott Ave. in Marina Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Officers said the driver may have tried to get away from police and ended up crashing into the power pole, causing wires to come down.

The driver was injured and is being taken to the hospital, police said.

Officers are asking people to avoid the area and use Carmel Ave. or Reservation Rd. instead.

PG&E is at the scene.
