Monterey doctor sentenced for stalking estranged husband

UPDATE 1/13/2016 4:38 PM: A Monterey gynecologist convicted of stalking her estranged husband and his alleged mistress was sentenced on Wednesday.

Dr. Mary Kay Brewster was sentenced to 180 days in jail, which can be served as home confinement or in a work alternative program, and three years probation.

She will face a judge again in January for a restitution hearing.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Monterey obstetrician and gynecologist has been convicted of stalking her husband and his alleged mistress.

Dr. Mary Kay Brewster was found guilty on two counts of felony stalking, one count of felony vandalism, and one count of trespassing.

The stalking began after Dr. Brewster and her husband separated following infidelity allegations. Dr. Brewster destroyed property in her husband’s workplace, sent harassing text messages, called his cellphone repeatedly, vandalized his car, poisoned his plants, and physically assaulted him.

She also broke into his home while he was away and released three rats and a ball python. Dr. Brewster did this knowing her husband has a phobia of snakes. Her husband didn’t stay in his home for a week, traumatized by the event.

Dr. Brewster is also accused of stalking her husband’s alleged mistress — a nurse who works in the same hospital as Dr. Brewster.

Dr. Brewster called the nurse a “skank” in front of patients, flicked bodily fluids on the victim in the operating room, and created a tough working environment.

When Monterey Police got involved, the harassment stopped for a few months. But the victim then realized some of her property was missing, her plants were dying, and that her mailbox was vandalized with acid. The victim installed video cameras and Dr. Brewster was caught on camera carrying plant poison and crawling under the victim’s car at 4:30 a.m.

Sentencing will occur on January 13, 2016.
