Castroville vehicle pursuit leads to firearm arrest, deputies said

Monterey County Deputies are searching for one of three men involved in a vehicle pursuit on Friday.

Investigators said the pursuit started after deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop and the driver sped off into a Castroville residential neighborhood around 10:26 p.m.

That’s when deputies said the driver lost control and crashed into a curb on Merritt Street.

After the crash, the driver and two other passengers got out and ran, according to deputies.

With the help of a K9, deputies were able to stop and arrest the driver, Martin Cruz, and a juvenile who was hiding underneath a car.

Deputies said the third suspect got away after running into nearby yards.

After searching the suspects’ car, deputies said they found two loaded guns.

The two arrested suspects were on probation, deputies said.

Cruz was booked into the Monterey County Jail and the Juvenile was lodged in the Monterey County Juvenile Hall.
