Man caught in Mexico for role in double-homicide at Watsonville restaurant

Watsonville Police and the FBI announced Saturday morning that a man has been extradited from Mexico for his role in a shooting that left a 4-year-old girl dead.

Marcos Daniel Robles, 23, had his apartment raided in Guadalajara, Mexico Thursday night and was taken into custody along with his girlfriend, Samantha Teran, 23. She is being charged with “an accessory after the murder.”

Robles and Teran were extradited Friday night and were booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

Robles faces two counts of murder for his role in a shooting last year that also left a rival gang member dead outside the Fish House Bar and Grill in Watsonville, according to police.

In August the FBI announced it was offering $20,000 for the capture and arrest of Robles and an additional $20,000 for the capture and arrest of Brandon Martinez, 21. Martinez remains at large. Police believe he is in Mexico.

“We have very strong evidence, everything from video, to witnesses to DNA evidence that links them to this,” said Watsonville Police Chief Manny Solano in a news conference in August.

Police said on October 10th of last year, several Norteo gang members staked out for rival gang member Ramon Rendon.

As the suspects gunned down Rendon, police said a stray bullet struck and killed Jaelyn Zavala who was inside the restaurant’s office.

Investigators said a total of six gang members were initially arrested. They include: Juan Cruz, Michael Escobar, Jimmy Espinoza, Amado Hernandez, Gilberto Ponciano and Roberto Ramirez.

The department said this is one of the most tragic cases its ever dealt.
