Boulder Creek Fire cancels crab feed fundraiser due to dwindling supply

A dwindling supply of crabs has forced Boulder Creek Fire to cancel an upcoming crab feed fundraiser.

Typically, the department nets several thousand dollars from a crab feed each year.

“Obviously it’s disappointing that we have to cancel any of our fundraisers but with the price of crab being so high it didn’t make sense to go forward with this fundraiser,” Boulder Creek Battalion Chief Chuck Wise said.

Those funds would have gone toward updating fire equipment like the Jaws of Life, and defibrillators. That equipment is also used for the department’s internship program where high school students train to become firefighters.

The next fundraiser is scheduled for July.
