Identification still pending on burned body found near Morgan Hill

An identification is still pending for the body found burning near Morgan Hill Thursday morning, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.

Drivers reported seeing a body on fire near Oak Glen Avenue during the morning commute. The fire was extinguished when deputies arrived. Deputies remained on scene collecting evidence until about 9 p.m. Thursday.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning.

Investigators have not said whether the victim was male or female. It’s being treated as a homicide.

The Sheriff’s Office said it doesn’t expect to release any further details on the case until after the Labor Day holiday weekend.
