Santa Cruz County Fair seeking Pajaro Valley’s best apple pie

Think your apple pie’s the best around?

Why not put your tart to the test at the Santa Cruz County Fair?

The 38th annual Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau Apple Pie Baking Contest will take place on the fair’s opening day, Sept. 9.

Entry deadline is Sept. 2

The contest is sponsored by the Pajaro Valley apple growers, shippers and related industries as well as pie lovers throughout Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley.

Entry forms can be found in the fair’s premium book located at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Office, 2601 East Lake Ave., Watsonville. You can also apply online or at the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau, 141 Monte Vista Ave., Watsonville. There is no entry fee.

There are three divisions:
1) Juniors – 17 and under
2) Seniors – 18 years-of-age and over
3) Masters – anyone who has won 1st, 2nd place in the Senior Division

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in each division, and one pie will be selected “Best in Show.”
