60 Santa Cruz County business owners recognized for responsible alcohol sales

Sixty business owners in Santa Cruz County are being recognized for being responsible alcohol merchants.

The Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live Partnership announced the winners of the 13th Annual Responsible Alcohol Merchant Awards Program this week. The awards recognize business owners in the county who actively work to restrict alcohol sales to minors and are compliant with alcohol beverage control regulations.

Friday Night Live youth have partnered with alcohol retailers to actively discourage and limit youth access to alcoholic beverages. That includes discussion of carding and training procedures, store layout and security measures to deter theft. Participating merchants sign and prominently display a “Merchant Committed” pledge that demonstrates their dedication to not providing alcohol to youth.

Those who met the highest grading criteria are being recognized as “Exemplary Merchants;” those meeting the next highest level are being recognized as “Honorable Merchants.”
