Salinas police step in after high school booster club theft

Someone broke into the home of the vice president of Everett Alvarez High School’s Booster Club earlier this week, taking the $2,000 raised to help pay for the students’ sober grad night field trip planned for Thursday.

Patricia Garcia Melano reported the theft to police and realized the thieves had taken the money she was holding for the Booster Club.

The responding police officer, Raul Rosales, was touched by the predicament and asked the police officers’ association to help the students so they could still go on their trip.

The Police Officers’ Association voted to donate $1,000 toward the cause if the community is willing to match the amount.
