Crews extinguish burning RV on southbound 101

Crews have put out a recreational vehicle that caught fire off southbound Highway 101 near Chualar as of late Wednesday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol dispatchers.

Monterey County fire crews said the blaze spread to nearby brush but they were able to contain it.

The right lane of southbound 101 was closed while crews worked to extinguish the fire, causing traffic build up. CHP told Central Coast News they believe the RV’s engine may have overheated.

Dispatchers were reporting that the driver and his passengers were able to get out of the vehicle.
