Cal Fire suspends burning throughout region

State fire officials are suspending all open burning as of today, May 1.

That extends to the following counties under contract with Cal Fire – Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey. It’s also includes portions of Stanislaus and western San Joaquin Counties.

Cal Fire officials say this is very important as these counties to continue to experience severe drought conditions, increasing the risk of wildfire.

Agriculture, land management, fire training, and other industrial-type burning may proceed only if a Cal Fire official inspects the burn site and issues a special permit. Campfires still will be allowed in designated campgrounds or in established facilities on private property with permission of the landowner.

More information about fire safety and fire prevention is available online.
