National Weather Service issues heat advisory

It’s hot, hot, hot in the Monterey Bay area today.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory around 11 a.m., warning residents of rising temperatures throughout the region.

Residents are urged to reschedule outdoor activities to the late evening if possible in order to reduce risk of developing heat exhaustion or stroke. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Today’s warmest temperatures are expected this afternoon, particularly around the Monterey Peninsula and in coastal portions of Santa Cruz County. Temperatures could get up to between 85 and 90 degrees in and around Santa Cruz, the weather service advised.

The service also warns that children, disabled adults and pets can not defend themselves from the heat and should never be left in unattended vehicles.
