Gov. Gavin Newsom provides update on state’s response to COVID-19 pandemic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to provide an update on the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic at around noon Wednesday.

Last week, Newsom announced a new tier system for county reopening guidance.

According to the California Department of Public Health, there were more than 707,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 13,018 deaths statewide.

On Tuesday, Newsom visited Big Basin Redwoods State Park to meet with emergency officials and survey the damage caused by the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires in Santa Cruz County.
