Two people cited in Santa Cruz for reportedly driving on beach, not sheltering in place

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz police cited two people for reportedly driving on a beach and not sheltering in place.

Police said two people from Fremont were caught driving a car on Cowell's Beach, and officers said the two claimed they were out during the coronavirus Shelter in Place because they claimed "it is not that serious."

Police cited the two for both violations, and the fine will be about $1,000.

To make sure the two were able to get home, police said they did not impound the car.
