Major injury crash being investigated in Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Santa Cruz CHP is investigating a crash that left one person with major injuries in Santa Cruz County Wednesday morning.

According to officials, officers responded to a car striking a pedestrian at around 4:50 a.m. just outside of Watsonville. At the time of the incident, a 73-year-old man from Aptos was driving a white Tesla Model Y on Airport Boulevard, east of Pajaro Lane. At the same time, the victim, a 63 year old man from Watsonville, was walking on Airport Boulevard, east of the Tesla.

For reasons still not known at this time, the Tesla struck the pedestrian. The man suffered major injuries and was taken to Natividad Medical Center. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
