Gonzales father sentenced for abusing child by holding him down during fight
A Gonzales father was sentenced to four years in probation, 120 days in custody and 52 weeks of parenting classes after he was found guilty of holding down a child during a fight.
The man, 37-year-old Agustin Valtierra Garcia, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of child abuse in October.
In May, police went to a Gonzales middle school because of a video that was circulating. It showed to children fighting. Garcia, the father of one of the boys, could be seen holding down the other boy during the fight. Police said the fight started because of possible bullying at school.
At the end of the video, Garcia’s son kicks the other boy in the head, and he loses consciousness. The boy told investigators Garcia held his arm during the fight to prevent him from protecting himself.
