Sunny, but windy, last day of 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (KION) Fans packed the Pebble Beach Golf Links one last time, this week.
"Sunday is the day," said fan, Hillary McCurley.
Crystal clear skies, sunshine and a little bit of wind defined the last day of the 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.
As always, the fans turned out to support their favorite players and celebrities. Some aren't just fans, they are family. "We came out to enjoy the beautiful scenery, but we also came out to support our nephew who's playing in the tournament," said Jim McCurley.
In 2019, heavy rain and hail tore down fan venues and delayed a whole day of the tournament. Sunday, a few strong gusts were the only threat to an otherwise perfect day for golf.
"You can definitely see shots that are being affected by the wind. They're used to it. They're used to playing in the wind, rain, snow, sleet and hail. Obviously, last year, there was hail. They just adjust to it. The better players rise to the top," AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am CEO, Steve John.
Players like Nick Taylor, Phil Mickelson and Kevin Streelman led the final day of the tournament.
Mickelson took home the championship trophy, last year. This marked his 5th win in Pro Am history. Some fans still rooted for Mickelson to take it home, this year. "I want Phil. I want Phil to go ahead and pull this off," said fan, Richard Lockets.
Other fans said they don't have a favorite. They said they are just glad to take in the views and see some great golf.
"For us it's about relationship building and our friends," said fan, Mike Novak.
"We're happy to be out in the sunshine. We get to see some people play and just enjoy our time," said Lockets.
Nick Taylor took home the 2020 championship trophy. Taylor is the first Canadian winner in Pro Am history.
