Active Weather Continues Tuesday

The storm system that brought extreme weather to the Monterey Bay Area on Sunday is technically still here on the West Coast. The center will continue to weaken and push back down the coast on Tuesday, shifting our winds to the northwest and pushing a few more showers and cooler air through the area. The atmosphere will remain unstable, so isolated thunderstorms may be possible over inland areas Tuesday afternoon. As the system finally departs, a fast-moving system will slide in from the north behind it, bringing rain, gusty northwest winds, and a cooler air mass.

AIR QUALITY: Good

*BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT*
… in effect until late tonight for the entire coast.

*Long period and larger swell will bring an increased sneaker wave threat to local beaches. Breaking waves may be up to 10 feet.

*Large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. Sneaker waves can also move large objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath.

*For the beach hazards statement, long period and large swell will bring an increased sneaker wave threat. Never turn your back on the ocean!

Tuesday: Partly cloudy early, then becoming mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing mainly over the higher terrain/inland. Breezy and cool northwesterly winds at times. Highs in the 50s.

Overnight: Partly to mostly cloudy skies with a light, isolated shower or two, with local peaks seeing a dusting snow. Expect areas of patchy fog. Lows in the 40s at the coast. 30s and 40s inland.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with rounds of rain. A chance for a thunderstorm on the coast. Gusty northwest winds at times. Cool, with highs in the 50s. Snow levels drop to 4,000ft.

Extended: Showers linger on Thursday with another cool day. One final weak system will move down the coast Friday and may bring a few additional showers before we dry out and warm up into the weekend.
