One man dead in RV fire in Gilroy, police say

GILORY, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON MARCH 14, 2024 AT 6:19 PM- Gilroy Police confirmed that a man has died in a fire after they discovered his remains inside an RV.

Officers said that the fire took place in an alleyway on the 7200 block of Rosanna Street. Gilroy Fire and Police said that found a recreational vehicle and an adjacent structure engulfed by fire to the rear of a residence.

Investigators said they had to evacuate nearby homes as a safety precaution. The fire was quickly put out by Gilroy Fire.

Gilroy Police said investigators discovered the remains of a man inside the RV.

Police said they are working with arson investigators to determine the events leading up to the fire.

Gilroy Fire extinguished an RV fire that took place near Gilroy City Hall on Thursday morning.

Gilroy Police said they responded to a vehicle in an alleyway in the area of 7th Street and Rosanna Street around 6:30 a.m.

When firefighters and officers got to the scene, they found one RV that was severely burned and a second RV was affected.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire according to Gilroy Police. An outbuilding was burned as well and a vehicle that was parked in the alleyway was affected as well.

Gilroy Police said City Hall is still open for businesses. Officers say that they are investigating the cause of the fire as well as if the fire was suspicious or not.

Police did not know if anyone was inside the RV at the time of the fire.
