Start of a Slight Cooling Trend
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - A slight cooling trend will begin Friday. Though you probably won't notice those temperatures changing much until early next week... as this will not be a significant cool down. A trough of low pressure to our north will drop temps inland day by day through the weekend. With a brief, slight warm up on Father's Day. While coastal temps will remain fairly consistent. However, northwesterly winds will pick up and high clouds will join the mix late Friday through Saturday.
Air Quality: Good to Moderate
Friday: Another day of perhaps more limited low cloudcover. After a partly cloudy start, expect mostly sunny conditions into the afternoon. Highs in the low 60s to mid-70s on the coast—warmest on the north side of the bay—and upper 60s to upper 90s inland. Gusty northwesterly onshore flow and windy up valleys late in the day.
Overnight: Increasing clouds, a mix of high and low clouds, becoming partly to mostly cloudy across the region. Lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s, with a few cooler spots inland in the 40s. Northwesterly winds breezy at times along the immediate coast, and valleys.
Saturday: Low clouds will linger along the coast, while high clouds will continue to pass through the entire area. Making for a partly cloudy day for most locations. However, you can still expect more of that sunshine inland. Highs will be just a touch cooler, with highs in the 60s to low 70s on the coast, warmer north bay. While inland, a range of 70s to low 90s is expected. Warmer in the southern valleys. West-northwesterly winds will be gusty along the immediate coast and up valley by lunch time. Decreasing high clouds inland late in the day.
Sunday (Father's Day): Conditions a bit warmer and sunnier. Mostly to partly cloudy skies will give way to mostly sunny skies inland. Low clouds will retreat to the coast, lingering on the south and east side of the bay, but clearing on the north side by late morning/ early afternoon. Early morning fog will also be on the decrease after sunrise. Coastal highs in the 60s to low 70s. Inland, 70s to low 90s (warmest in the southern valleys). Gusty northwest winds by afternoon along the coast and up valley.
Extended: Sunday's brief warm up will be the result of the trough retreating to the north, which will allow the ridge of high pressure to build in for the day. But, by Monday, the trough will have more of an impact as is it dips southward before finally passing through. Temperatures will cool (inland especially). Though, the cool down will be short-lived. High pressure rebuilds starting Tuesday allowing for a mid-week warm up. Temps will become toasty inland by Wednesday... which could mean a more stable and cloudy marine layer could once again redevelop.
