Cold Night Ahead
A cold air mass settles in today, so despite sunshine on Sunday, highs are expected to be well below normal. And then, we settle in for a long, cold, winter night with freezing temperatures likely for inland valleys and frost likely for many other areas, even approaching the coast. Now’s the time to protect sensitive plants. Expect another cool day on Monday before the weather pattern becomes more active again. We’ll see light rain chances Tuesday through Thursday and perhaps a stronger system next weekend

***FREEZE WARNING…
…for the higher elevations and southern valleys of Monterey & San Benito County in effect from midnight Sunday until 10AM Monday
*Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 expected.
*Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
*Far interior locations of Monterey and San Benito counties will see a few spots reach the mid 20s Sunday night into Monday morning.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
