Chilly Temps, Then Thursday Storm
The weather pattern will remain fairly active into next week. However, the next system will be the strongest—perhaps the strongest since December. This cold front will arrive early on Thursday with gusty winds, possible thunderstorms, and brief, heavy rain. This fast-moving system will be cleared by late Thursday, but additional, much weaker systems are possible early Sunday morning and overnight Monday into Tuesday. At least temperatures will warm up a little by then!
Wednesday: Cool, with highs in the 50s. Increasing clouds and wind late with a few sprinkles possible on the coast before midnight.
***GALE WARNING***
The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning for the near coastal waters of Monterey/Santa Cruz Counties outside of Monterey Bay from 3AM through 9AM Thursday.
Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.
Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for severe conditions.
Overnight: Cloudy skies overnight with light to moderate showers possible. Lows will be in the 30s-40s. Gusty winds at times. The majority of the rain looks to arrive after sunrise.
Thursday: Thursday’s storm system will likely be the strongest since December and will likely arrive mid to late morning. You can expect brief, heavy rain and gusty winds with the possibility of thunderstorms and even snow in the higher elevations. Highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s.
Extended: We’ll clear out on Friday, but fog is possible in the morning and temperatures will remain chilly. Expect some warming this weekend with low 60s returning, but another weak weather station may bring some light rain early Sunday morning with another overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 22nd – 28th calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
