Murray Bridge begins full closure on June 23
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) - The Murray Bridge in Santa Cruz will undergo a seven and a half months complete closure starting on June 23 as part of the first phase of a three-year seismic retrofit project.
The bridge will reopen to eastbound vehicle and bicycle traffic in February 2026. The westbound lane will remain closed until the project is fully completed in January of 2028.
For those looking to walk along the bridge, pedestrian access will not be open until February 2026. These dates are subject to change.
As for traffic detours, all vehicles will have to go through Soquel Avenue via Seabright and 7th Avenue. Bicyclists will be detoured across Arana Gulch and Broadway via Seabright and 7th Avenue. Pedestrians will have to walk around the north harbor.
It is important to note that despite the bridge closure, Seabright and Harbor businesses will remain open throughout the project, with the city asking locals to continue their support for those businesses.
The project first began in January of this year with the expectation of having it completed by January 2028 or sooner.
