San Benito County Sheriff attends Department of Homeland Security briefings in light of Isreal-Iran war

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION) - Concerns about national security have made their way to San Benito County.

Sheriff Eric Taylor, reassuring people after attending briefings with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI in light of the action taken on Iran's nuclear facilities.

"We always try to keep our community safe, right? And so we're gonna put all the systems in place to do that, specifically schools," said Breyon Canez, Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Eric Taylor says he's been virtually attending briefings with Homeland Security, not because there's a threat in San Benito County, but to stay ahead of any possibility.

In a statement from Sheriff Taylor, he says:

"There is concern about sleeper cells in our nation, but there is no credible information that we are in danger locally."

He also addressed the Verizon outage on Sunday — confirming it was caused by a power issue — not a cyber attack.

Sheriff Taylor says he will continue attending those federal briefings and will keep the community informed.

But for now, they say if you see something, say something.

"Just know that anything that we receive, we're going to try to be transparent and we're going to relay that information to the community because at the end of the day, we're trying to keep our community members safe and aware of what's going on in the news," said Canez.
