Two injured in overnight shooting at Chualar church, deputies say

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Two people were injured in an overnight shooting at a church in Chualar, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the victims were attending a gathering at the St. Theodore's Catholic Pastoral Center in the town when shots were fired around 1 a.m.

Deputies said they received multiple calls from the Grant and Scott Street area at that time saying two people were shot.

Both victims are expected to be okay, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said while there's no threat to the community, the suspects were able to escape and they're actively searching for those individuals.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Monterey County Sheriff's Detective J. Perez at 755-5100.

Detectives are also asking for surveillance video in the area and remind witnesses they can stay anonymous if they request to do so.
