One person killed in Hollister crash, vehicle found severely crushed around traffic light pole

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Hollister Police had to shut down a portion of Hillcrest Road near Highway 25 after a deadly crash on Tuesday night.

Police said when they arrived on scene, the car was found severely crushed around a traffic light pole.

The driver died at the scene, according to police.

While investigating, police said multiple witnesses saw the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles on the right shoulder along Highway 25 from Gilroy.

Witnesses told police the driver was approaching the Highway 25 and Hillcrest Road intersection traveling south while southbound traffic had a red light signal.

Police said witnesses saw a vehicle traveling westbound on Hillcrest Road collided with the rear end of the speeding vehicle, causing it to spin sideways and crash into the pole.

The identity of the driver killed in the crash has not been provided at this time.
