San Jose Sharks unveil design for new ice facility in Gilroy

GILROY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The game of hockey could soon be expanding into the Garlic Capital of the World.

This week, the San Jose Sharks unveiled design plans to built a skating facility that would feature 2 NHL regulated rinks.

The master plan was unveiled during a Gilroy City Council meeting on Tuesday

Construction on the project could be completed as early as Fall 2026.

City staff have been working with Team Teal to develop a design for the project and there are a couple of options.

Part of the master design plan does include a restaurant, snack bar and parking lot with 380 spaces.

The next step for Gilroy is the construction bid which will be determined later this year.

This will be the fourth Sharks Ice facility in Northern California with the three locations being in San Jose, Oakland and Freemont.
