Gilroy man dead in vehicle versus pedestrian crash, officers said

SAN MARTIN, CALIF. (KION-TV) - The California Highway Patrol said that a 56-year-old Gilroy man has died after they were hit by a car on Monday morning.

Officers said that the crash happened on Southbound Monterey Road just south of Roosevelt Avenue around 5:20 a.m.

Investigators said that a 55-year-old Morgan Hill man was driving a 1998 Ford Windstar southbound on Monterey Road at 50 miles per hour.

The California Highway Patrol said that a 56-year-old Gilroy man was trying to cross Monterey Road from east to west and went directly into the path of the Ford Windstar.

The man died as a result from his injuries. Officers believe that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this crash.
