Surf’s Up for Monterey Peninsula Unified’s Special Education Department students

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Special Education Department students at Monterey Peninsula Unified School District got a chance to take part in a unique Beach Surf Day.

The students, aged 4 to 14, were joined by staff with the Wahine Project in Monterey on Friday morning.

The Wahine Project says its mission is to eliminate barriers that prevent youth from being exposed to the ocean and ocean-related activities.

Dozens of students and volunteers were able to enjoy the day out on the water.

KION Chief Photographer Calista Silva shares the sights and sounds of the event.
