30-year-old man dead in shooting at Hollister Migrant Housing Center, deputies looking for multiple suspects involved
HOLLISTER, CALIF. (KION-TV)- A 30-year-old man is dead after he was shot multiple times at the Hollister Migrant Housing Center on Wednesday night according to the San Benito County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the shooting took place around 6:56 p.m. when they received a call that a person was shot at Hollister Migrant Housing Center.
When officers arrived, medical aid, CPR, and life saving measures were done before the 30-year-old man was prounced dead at the scene.
San Benito County Sheriff Eric Taylor identified the victim as 30-year-old Allen Vargas of Hollister.
Taylor said that Vargas was inside of an apartment at the Housing Center when two suspects got out of the car and started shooting through the window which killed Vargas.
Investigators said that three other people were inside of the apartment at the time of the shooting and were not injured.
Taylor told KION that he believes the shooting was targeted.
"Per the witness statements, the way it unfolded, sure, it appears that definitely it gangs overtones to it," Taylor said.
Sheriff Taylor said that Vargas was not a farmworker and was staying at the housing center a couple of days prior to the shooting.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the victims of the Hollister Line Street apartment fire that were recently given temporary housing at the Migrant Housing Center were not harmed in the shooting.
The San Benito County Sheriff's Office says the cause of the shooting is still under investigation. If you have any information on the shooting, you are asked to contact the San Benito County Sheriff's Office.
