San Benito Health Care District accepts letter of intent from Insight Foundation of America

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON JAN. 8, 2024 AT 3:32 PM- The San Benito Health Care District accepted a third letter of intent from a suitor looking to purchase Hazel Hawkins Hospital.

During a special board meeting on Monday afternoon, the District accepted a letter of intent from Insight Foundation of America which is a non-profit health organization based in Flint, MI.

The Insight Foundation is looking to pay $59 million to $65 million to purchase the hospital's assets.

Hospital officials said that accepting the letter of intent will allow them to continue negotiations to potentially pave way for an agreement.

If a deal can be reached, the San Benito Health Care District board will have to approve the agreement and submit the agreement for voters for a final ratification approval.

This is the third suitor to have shown intrest in purchasing the hospital. In February 2023, American Advanced Management submitted their letter of intent to purchase the hospital.

In October 2023, the San Benito County Board of Supervisors submitted their letter of intent to create a Joint Powers Authority to manage the hospital.

That proposal would include Salinas Valley Health managing the hospital.

A Hazel Hawkins hospital spokesperson told KION that the County has not formally submitted a proposal to the San Benito Health Care District.

Third suitor submits a letter of intent to purchase Hazel Hawkins Hospital

A third suitor has submitted a letter of intent to purchase Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister.

Insight Foundation of America which is a non-profit health organization submitted their letter of intent to the San Benito Health Care District on January 2.

The Flint, MI based organization is looking to pay $59 million to $65 million for the hospital's assets.

The San Benito Health Care District will be having a special meeting on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. to potentially take action on the proposal.

Insight's offer becomes the third party that is looking to purchase the hospital.

In February 2023, American Advanced Management submitted their letter of intent to purchase the hospital. In October 2023, the San Benito County Board of Supervisors submitted their letter of intent to create a Joint Powers Authority to manage the hospital.

The authority will have multiple stakeholders involved including the cities of Hollister and San Juan Bautista along with the San Benito Health Care District. Salinas Valley Health would be the contacted management agency and would manage the hospital.
