Suspected arsonist arrested after allegedly lighting multiple fires on Christmas Day, police say
MORGAN HILL, Calif. (KION-TV)- A Morgan Hill man is facing multiple arson charges for lighting a series of fires on Christmas night according to Morgan Hill Police.
Officers said the incidents started after 7 p.m. at multiple locations along Monterey Road.
Two of those fires were set at gas stations and one was set at Community Cultural Center which caused no structural damage.
The first three fires were extinguished before they got out of hand according to police.
Another fire was set at the Crossings Apartment Complex which is located at 16800 Monterey Road. The fourth fire caused minor structural damage to the building.
Investigators and Morgan Hill Fire determined that each fire was intentionally set and that they were all connected.
On Monday, police determined that 29-year-old Juan Mendez of Morgan Hill was the primary suspect. Mendez was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple arson charges
