Marina woman pleas guilty to welfare fraud

MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) - A Marina woman pleaded guilty to welfare fraud and perjury last Friday.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office, 41-year-old Ashley Grant pled guilty after unlawfully garnering $25,279 in CalFresh benefits from the Monterey County Department of Social Services from October of 2021 to April of 2024.

Garrett had signed benefit applications without disclosing her partner's employment and earnings and certifying false information as true.

Garrett is scheduled for sentencing on August 20.
