El Cerrito man sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Santa Cruz County Court records show Theobald Lengyel has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend.

Alice Hermann was reported missing back in December 2023 after she missed a flight to see her family in Hawaii but never boarded the plane.

Lengyel was arrested about a month later, with the district attorney's office saying he stole a car from Hermann's house in Capitola that was registered under Hermann and her father's name.

Capitola Police said Hermann's body was found at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV)-An El Cerrito man who is charged with the disappearance and the murder of a Capitola woman is one step closer to going before a jury.

The Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office says the preliminary examination for Theobald Lengyel has ended.

After another arraignment hearing where Lengyel plead not guilty to multiple charges, court records show a new potential trial date in the month of August.

Lengyel is accused of killing his girlfriend Alice Hermann in December.

Officers said that she was last seen in Santa Cruz on Dec. 3 and was reported missing by family on the 12th after she never made the flight.

Capitola Police said human remains were found at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley and they were Hermann's.

UPDATE ON FEB. 8, 2024 AT 12:50 PM- An El Cerrito man who is accused of killing his girlfriend pleaded not guilty in a Santa Cruz courthouse on Thursday morning.

Theobald Lengyel pleaded not guilty to murder, felony burglary and auto theft charges in the disappearance and alleged homicide of Alice "Alyx" Hermann.

Hermann was last seen in Santa Cruz on December 3 and was suppose to go to Hawaii to visit family but never made the flight on Dec. 12

The Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office and Capitola Police believe that Lengyel was killed on December 5.

According to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office, Lengyel stole a vehicle from Hermann's house in Capitola that was registered under Hermann and her father on New Year's Eve.

Capitola Police said human remains were found at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley and were awaiting DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Lengyel will remain in custody and make his next court appearance on April 4 at 8:15 a.m.

Santa Cruz County District Attorney's office to charge boyfriend with murder of missing Capitola woman

CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION-TV)- A 54-year-old El Cerrito man who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in the disappearance and alleged homicide of a Capitola woman will be facing murder charges according to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office.

Theobald Lengyel will be facing murder charges when he appears in a Santa Cruz courtroom on Thursday morning.

Lengyel is accused of killing his girlfriend Alice "Alyx" Kamakokalani Hermann who was last seen on December 3 in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office and Capitola Police believe that Hermann was killed by Lengyel on December 5.

The DA's Office also confirmed Lengyel is facing a felony burglary and auto theft charge as well.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Lengyel stole a vehicle from Hermann's house in Capitola that was registered under Hermann and her father on New Year's Eve.

Capitola Police said human remains were found at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley and are awaiting DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Lengyel will be in court on Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m.

Boyfriend arrested and charged with murder of missing Capitola woman, police say

UPDATE ON JAN. 2, 2024 AT 1:56 PM- On Tuesday afternoon, Capitola Police said they have arrested a 54-year-old El Cerrito man in connection to the disappearance and homicide of Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Hermann.

Police said that Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office helped them arrest Theobald Lengyel in Santa Cruz County on Tuesday.

Capitola Police also confirmed that investigators recovered human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkley.

Officers said that the identification of the remains is pending confirmation from the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office.

Investigators said that Kamakokalani was last seen on Dec. 3 in Santa Cruz which prompted a missing person investigation that started on December 12 when her brother told KTVU that she was suppose to fly to Hawaii to visit family but never made the trip.

Capitola Police said that they gathered evidence and conducted interviews which led to Lengyel as the primary suspect.

Investigators did confirm that Lengyel is being charged with murder and is currently in custody.

Capitola Police said that this remains an ongoing investigation and they will not provide any further information at this time.

Missing, uncooperative boyfriend person of interest in Capitola woman's disappearance

EL CERRITO, Calif, (FOX-35)- Authorities are searching for a person of interest in the missing persons case of a Capitola woman. The case is being referred to as a homicide investigation by El Cerrito Police.

El Cerrito Police are looking for the boyfriend of Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Hermann, last seen in Santa Cruz on Dec. 3. Her boyfriend is 54-year-old Theobald (Theo) Brooks Lengyel, an El Cerrito resident.

Police said that they are looking to close up the timeline of when she was last seen and when she disappeared.

She was last seen on Dec 3 in Santa Cruz. and if people saw her that day they want to know what the interactions were like on that day.

Officers said Lengyel also goes by "Mylo Stone." He's considered a person of interest in Alice's disappearance "based on his actions" and has not cooperated with the police investigation.

Police said there have been sightings of Lengyel but they would like to know the circumstances of the encounters with him as well.

El Cerrito Police is looking for Theo Lengyel, who is the boyfriend of missing Capitola woman. Officers say he has not been corporative with the investigation.

Capitola Police said that Alice's family reported her missing on Dec. 12 when she missed a flight to Hawaii. Officers said that they received a call of a welfare check for Hermann at her residence which is on the 1700 block of 43rd Avenue.

Police found her car in front of Lengyel's home.

El Cerrito Police also believe to have traveled north to Portland, Ore. 

Lengyel is described as a white man standing at 5 feet 10 inches with brown eyes and brown hair. He weighs 170 pounds. He normally drives a 1989 blue Ford pickup truck with the license plate "UNCLDRT."

Police says that Lengyel is driving a 1989 Blue Ford Pickup Truck with the license plate UNCLDRT.

Alice is 61 years old and a Pacific Islander woman. She's 5 feet 4 inches and weighs 135 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair, and usually drives a red 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV with the plates "5VAC944."

Both cars are in police custody. El Cerrito Police are collaborating with the Capitola and Portland Police Departments in the investigation.

Anyone who spends time in regional parks and open spaces is asked to be "on the lookout" for anything suspicious.
