Tax deadline rush: What to expect when filing as the deadline nears

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV): The clock is ticking for people who have not filed their 2023 tax return.

Gabriela Jimenez, is a tax preparer. She’s been working at Platinum Multiservice in Seaside for almost four years. She said there's one thing to remember when filing your taxes this year.

"Let's remember this year there's no extension like 2023," said Jimenez.

Jimenez said last years deadline was extended because of winter storms. She also said there are no changes for ITIN filers this year.

An ITIN filer is a person who does not have a social security.

In California, ITIN holders qualify for both the California Earned Income Tax Credit and the Young Child Tax Credit.

"The tax credit for children under 17 is $2,000 and for other dependents $500." said Jimenez.

Jimenez said for the California Earned Income Tax Credit, it depends how much money each taxpayer gets in return. She said each case is different, it all depends on their income and family size.

Jimenez also said it's also very important for people to stay vigilant during this tax season, she said a lot of people get scammed when they don't go to a certified tax place.

"They cannot receive a letter from the IRS or the state of California, asking them for some clarification, people need to avoid those kind of scammers." said Jimenez.

People can file their taxes online and use websites like Turbo tax, or go to certified tax place near your area.
