Seaside Police: 2 dogs quarantined following brutal attacks
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) A family of three is regaining strength, Thursday. “We are able to bring our dog back out and not have to worry about it,” said Seaside resident, David Woodman.
For David Woodman and Ena Rosa, the new year brought peace and a sense of safety. Police have quarantined two dogs suspected of attacking and killing the couple’s six-month-old puppy, Jasper.
“It’s a relief, really. Coping with it is day-to-day,” said Woodman.
The couple said the attack happened Thursday afternoon at Havana Soliz Park. Later, two other pet owners came forward with similar stories. They told KION their dogs also were attacked by a pair of large German Shepard mixes.
“We are investigating these alleged attacks. We are trying to gather information from witnesses and victims. To our knowledge, there weren't any reports of any person being bitten, however, we all know that there was a tragic death of someone's pet,” said Seaside Police Chief, Abdul Pridgen.
Police said they contacted the owners of the dogs described by the victims. Officers said the owners voluntarily handed their dogs to the Monterey County SPCA.
“The threat taught me a lesson. I have to be more safe,” said Rosa.
Rosa said she now carries pepper spray for protection when walking her dog, Niley. “Even though those dogs are quarantined, at this point, I don't want to be in a situation like that ever again. I want to take precautions now,” said Rosa.
Woodman and Rosa are encouraging those interested to donate to the South County Animal Rescue in Jasper’s honor.
