HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (KION) A male victim was discovered suffering from shark bite at Gray Whale Cove State Beach Saturday morning.

Authorities say at around 9:15 a.m., a juvenile great white shark -- reportedly six to eight feet long -- swam up to a surfer and bit him on the leg.

It quickly released its grip and swam off, but the 39-year-old victim suffered at least 10 lacerations to the back of his thigh. Bystanders helped him swim back to shore and waited until first responders arrived.

CAL FIRE CZU confirms that the patient was treated with advanced life support measures before being transported to a local trauma center in serious condition.

Park workers have placed warning signs for people to stay out of the water for the next two days.
