Salvation Army Good Samaritan Center in Sand City breaks ground on new renovation project

SAND CITY, Calif. (KION-TV) - Some big changes are coming to the Salvation Army’s Sabu Shake Sr. and Family Good Samaritan center” in Sand City.

The center kicked off a complete renovation project with a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning. The project is set to enhance numerous spaces from counseling offices, restrooms, the laundry area, as well as overall site upgrades.

The ceremony included several local leaders, as well those behind the construction work.

“We're honored to be working here with the Shakes [family] and Salvation Army to get this all taken care of and also to help out the community," Balesteri Construction CEO and President Anthony Balesteri said.

“I know so many of our community felt that there's a lack of resources. Well, that's been heard, and the action has come together. In combination, you've got nonprofits stepping up with private businesses and donors philanthropists to make this happen," Monterey County District 3 Supervisor Chris Lopez said.

In terms of the timeline of this project, construction is set to start next week, with the project set to be completed in Spring 2025.
