SAN JOSE, Calif. - A woman and a child are dead after a wrong-way crash happened on a San Jose highway on Monday.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that killed two people.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Highway 85 at Saratoga Avenue, authorities said.

A pickup truck driving south in the northbound lanes struck a Tesla. The pick-up truck’s driver was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, but the two people in the Tesla were pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.

CHP records show the victims in the Tesla were a 47-year-old woman who was driving and a 14-year-old boy passenger. They were both from San Jose. The victim's names have not yet been released.

The driver of the Toyota pickup truck was identified as 39-year-old Duncan McQuarrie of Orlando, Florida. Records show McQuarrie has not been arrested.

The northbound lanes of the highway were shut down Monday evening, but reopened around 8 p.m.
