Monterey Bay F.C. 2 opens 2024 campaign with 1-0 win over San Francisco City

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - Monterey Bay F.C. 2 (1-0-0, 3 points) kicked off its sophomore campaign with a 1-0 win over San Francisco City FC (0-0-1, 0 points).

Both teams played a scoreless first half before Janos Kömmerling opened scoring in the second. Following a blocked MBFC2 penalty kick, the Union recovered quickly finding the back of the net in the 66th minute.

In transition, Jomar Munaf carved up the San Francisco defense, bringing the ball into enemy territory. After crossing the 30-yard line at Rabobank Stadium, Munaf played a ball down the right side to Kömmerling who gained possession and quickly fired a shot across the box, finding the far side of the cage for what would be the lone goal of the match.

Jack Landreth finished with the club's first clean sheet of the season.

The Crisp and Kelp are coming off a successful inaugural season that saw the side earn a NorCal Division title with a record of 10-1-1. Wednesday night's match marked the first of fourteen this year and one of seven taking place along the Central Coast.
