SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) — This Easter holiday, candy and toys prices are soaring, along with cocoa prices.

Cocoa hit record high prices ahead of this weekend.

For some local business they have noticed sales have been picking up as Easter holiday approaches.

“Generally it has been a bit busier than previous years," Charlie Perez the manager of Dulceria Vargas candy store said. "I’m assuming maybe people are a little bit more excited for Easter.”

Restaurants such as 31st Grill in Salinas are expecting to be busy during Easter day.

Their other business, Emma’s Bakery got hit pretty hard last year selling out of their pies.

“Last Easter weekend we weren’t open yet, but our other business Emma’s Bakery were pretty busy for pies and I think we’ll be busy tomorrow, ” manager of The 31st Grill Isaac Estrada said.

The day before easter at this local candy store in Salinas, they have seen less customers coming in than the day before.

“It has been slightly different, not really for one specific issue or reason," Perez said. "Like some for some reason, some days like today it’s pretty slow, but yesterday was pretty busy for Easter.”

For many residents, they still find it important to support local businesses during holidays, especially during Easter.

“It’s important to support your local businesses if they’re small, it could help out the community,” Javier Reynoso a local business owner.

Make sure to check the hours of stores and restaurants to see if they are open during Easter day.
