MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirms it has recovered what is believed to be a human body.

It was found Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m., but it was in such bad shape that a forensic anthropologist is being brought in to make sure it is human.

Once it is confirmed whether the body is human, the Sheriff's Office said DNA will likely be used to identify who the person is.

The Sheriff's Office said it would not make connections to missing people because of how far bodies can travel.
