GILROY, Calif. (KION) A portion of Mantelli Drive in Gilroy is expected to be closed for several days due to an explosion at a home.

On Monday afternoon, the Gilroy Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion in the 1700 block, and there they found that a 53-year-old man living in the home was injured in an explosion. The City said his injuries are severe, and he is being treated at a trauma center. Nobody else was injured.

The Santa Clara Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and the Gilroy Police Department's CSI team are still at the scene investigating. It is still unknown what types of explosives are at the scene, but they say it does not appear to be related to a drug lab.

Mantelli Drive between Rancho Hills Drive and Learnard Way is expected to be closed for several days as a result.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Silva at 408-846-0335 and reference case 20-4701. They may also call the tip line at 408-846-0330 to remain anonymous.
