Castroville welcomes new sign, still remains the “Artichoke Center of the World”

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) - The City of Castroville welcomed a new sign this week, replacing its iconic original sign.

While the sign may be updated, it still hangs above Merritt Street, greeting residents and passersby as the "Artichoke Center of the World." An artichoke even replaces the "O" in the center of "Castroville" to further that slogan.

Four other artichokes adorned the sign along the metallic structure. CalTrans are the leader and developer of the project.

Left from the project is putting the final touches on the supports for the sidewalks on Merritt Street.
