(KION) The California Independent System Operator is calling for electricity conservation Thursday and has issued a Flex Alert.

High temperatures are expected, so the agency is expecting an increase in demand for electricity. Because of increased demand, fire activity and heat, California ISO expects a potential energy shortage.

The alert is in effect between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., and during that time, California ISO is asking people to conserve energy by turning off unnecessary lights, avoiding the use of major appliances and setting air conditioner thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
