17-year-old suspect in Salinas armed beer theft pleads guilty
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) A 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to charges related to an armed robbery at a Salinas 7-Eleven last month.
Salinas police said the teen was arrested by the Violence Suppression Task Force the day after the robbery. When officers contacted him, they said he had a handgun and dropped it while he tried to get away.
The suspect pleaded guilty to charges related to the robbery and shooting a gun Thursday. He will be sentenced at another time.
The armed robbery happened on July 21 at about 11 p.m. when two people walked into the store and stole two 18-packs of beer, according to the police. When a clerk followed the two outside, police said the 17-year-old, who was in a light gray sweatshirt, pointed a gun at him and fired once.
